Compassionate Home Care, Exceptional Outcomes

The In-Home Aide (IHA) delivers safe, reliable, and compassionate personal care and homemaker support for clients in the home, ensuring dignity, safety, and a best-in-class service experience. You’ll assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental ADLs (IADLs), observe and report changes in condition, and collaborate closely with nursing and administrative teams to keep care timely, person-centered, and compliant.

Position: In-Home Aide (IHA)

Reports to: Clinical Supervisor (RN) / Director of Nursing

Location: Morganton, NC

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Client Care

  • Provide hands-on assistance with ADLs: bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, feeding, transfers, ambulation, and positioning—according to the plan of care and within IHA scope.
  • Support IADLs: light housekeeping, laundry, meal planning/preparation, dishwashing, and bed-making to maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Offer companionship and emotional support; promote client autonomy, privacy, and cultural preferences.
  • Utilize safe techniques and approved equipment for mobility/transfer assistance (e.g., gait belts, walkers).
  • Observe and promptly report changes in client status (e.g., appetite, skin integrity, mood, function) to the supervising nurse—do not perform independent clinical assessment or make medical judgments.

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow infection-prevention practices (hand hygiene, PPE per policy) and adhere to agency protocols, HIPAA, and client rights.
  • Execute fall-prevention and safe-patient-handling practices; keep walkways and care areas hazard-free.
  • Comply with state scope-of-practice limits for aides; seek direction from the RN when in doubt.

Customer Service

  • Communicate with clients, families, and team members professionally, courteously, and empathetically.
  • Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and service excellence in every interaction.
  • Represent the organization’s values and brand, maintaining a calm, solutions-oriented presence—even on the busy days.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Document services provided accurately and on time in the EHR/EVV system per visit requirements.
  • Escalate and document changes in health, safety concerns, incidents, or refusals of care immediately to the supervising nurse.
  • Protect confidentiality in all written and verbal communications.

Other Duties

  • Participate in orientation, in-services, competency checks, and staff meetings to stay current on policies and best practices.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned by nursing leadership within IHA scope.

Work Environment

  • Services are delivered in client homes and community settings with routine exposure to standard home-care environments.
  • The role may require travel between client locations; reliable transportation is expected.

Qualifications

  • In-Home Aide/HHA certification in North Carolina (or state-recognized training/competency per program requirements).
  • Prior experience in home care, assisted living, or related setting preferred (new aides welcome).
  • Current BLS/CPR preferred or obtained upon hire.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow care plans and safety instructions in English; bilingual skills a plus.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient with personal care, mobility/transfer assistance, basic household support, and safe-use of assistive devices.
  • Strong communication, time-management, documentation, and customer-service skills.
  • Dependable, coachable, and team-oriented, with sound judgment on when to escalate to the RN.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift, pivot, and transfer up to 50 lbs with/without assistive devices; stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Bend, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive motions necessary for personal care and light housekeeping tasks.
  • Safely operate lifts and mobility equipment as trained.
